California Schools to Receive Historic $2.4 Billion Boost for Special Education

Hello California families,

We have some incredibly positive news regarding school funding. Governor Newsom recently signed a budget bill that includes a historic $2.4 billion increase for K-12 special education across the state.

This represents a massive 43% increase in special education funding compared to last year. This investment is designed to help close the gaps created by federal shortfalls and provide much-needed support for students with disabilities.

What this means for your child:

If your child has an IEP or receives special education services, this funding should eventually translate to better resources, more support staff, and improved programs within your local school district. While it takes time for state funds to reach individual classrooms, this is a monumental step in the right direction for disability rights in education.

As the new school year approaches, this is a great time to connect with your child’s IEP team to discuss how your district plans to utilize these new resources to support students.

Warmly,

The Autism Pathways Team
