We have some potentially wonderful news for Texas families with teens and young adults on the autism spectrum.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has proposed a rule change that would expand eligibility for the Children’s Autism Program. Currently, the program only serves children ages 3 through 15. The new proposal would expand access to include young adults up to age 22, helping to close a significant gap in services as our kids transition into adulthood.
The proposed rules also clarify that parent training would be required at least twice a month to help families better support their child’s progress at home. While the public comment period for this specific rule change has recently closed, we are watching closely for the final approval.
